<image:title>Blog - TECH Talks with Michael - AmazonBasics Professional Condenser USB Microphone - $129.99</image:title>
<image:caption>Due to the pandemic and the lack of supply of many of the best USB microphones that are on this list, I recently stumbled upon Amazon’s take on the USB microphone. Perhaps this is why Amazon is taking over the world. This microphone essentially has all the same features as the Blue Yeti X, but betters it by allowing recording at 24bit/192kHz sample rates which is studio level quality. I do not have experience with this microphone so I cannot give an opinion on how this microphone sounds or how reliable it is, but it can record in stereo like the Yeti X and has all the same features, is cheaper, and is actually currently available.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ec865439d9c412a9d7b9b52/1591761620110-U5Z2O8HKQPLDNVQIJ6YM/FIFINE.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - TECH Talks with Michael - Fifine USB Microphone - $45.99</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the cheaper options out there, but we feel it is highly functional and worth the value. While it may not have the greatest sound out of the microphones on this list, it allows you to adjust the input gain and has a USB cable of decent length to allow you to position the microphone in the best possible place to pick up the best sound. As with all of these online lessons, our goal for buying extra technology is to allow us to transmit the most accurate representation of our sound and dynamics. While this is difficult because all of the video programs compress the audio on some level, the Fifine USB microphone is a worthy investment into gaining a little bit more control over your audio and getting more out of your online lessons as a result.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - TECH Talks with Michael - Beyerdynamic Fox Condenser Microphone (USB-C only) - $129.00 currently</image:title>
<image:caption>If you have a newer computer that only has USB-C ports on it, this may be the microphone for you. If you don’t have a USB-C port, you will need a USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter to use this with the normal USB ports we are used to. Beyerdynamic is another well known company for audio products and this is their version of a USB microphone. Compared to the previous two microphones on this list, this mic has more features on the front including a mix-knob for monitoring as well as a mute button and headphone jack with volume control.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - TECH Talks with Michael - Blue Yeti X - $169.99</image:title>
<image:caption>The Blue Yeti X is known as one of the best microphones for podcasting and streaming today. It simply offers an impressive array of features which just makes it easier to record. It allows you to adjust the input gain on the microphone itself as well as monitor your sound with headphones. Furthermore, there are LED lights that act as a meter so you can see how high your input levels actually are. This microphone records at a 24bit/48kHz sample rate which is higher than the first two microphones on this list, but not quite as high as the Beyerdynamic.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ec865439d9c412a9d7b9b52/1591761810390-H7V6TBHRCOWEN449KQQJ/AUDIOTECHNICA.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - TECH Talks with Michael - AudioTechnica AT2020USB+ - $149.00</image:title>
<image:caption>The AT2020 USB+ is a cardioid condenser microphone that is a USB version of the AT2020, which is one of Audio Technica’s well known professional microphones. Besides bringing the legendary quality of Audio Technica, this microphone allows you to monitor the signal through headphones via a headphone jack on the microphone itself so you can hear more clearly what the audio signal sounds like. Yes the price is higher, but this is a higher quality microphone that should offer clearer, more detailed sound than the previous microphone on this list. There is no gain control on the microphone itself, so the input will have to be controlled from your computer. At the time of writing, this microphone is backordered on almost every website that we can think of, including the original manufacturer’s. The link provided is to a package on Amazon that throws in a boom arm that will allow you to elevate the microphone and angle it to your needs for $199.00. The original price of this microphone by itself is $149.00, so please don’t pay more than that for only the microphone if you decide to look into this one.</image:caption>

<image:title>Yehuda Gilad - Core Faculty, Professor of Clarinet, Colburn Conservatory & USC Thornton School of Music, Music Director of the Colburn School Orchestra</image:title>
<image:caption>Lauded by The New York Times for his “strong imaginative programming,” Yehuda Gilad takes an innovative approach to music-making, which has earned him a reputation as one of today’s most dynamic and charismatic artists. A conductor, instrumentalist, and teacher, he strives for “total musicianship,” and as a result, he has won the acclaim of both critics and audiences alike. Currently Music Director of the Colburn Orchestra, Gilad served as Music Director of the Colonial Symphony of New Jersey from 1988-2003. According to The Star-Ledger, he “transformed the Colonial Symphony into one of [New Jersey’s] artistic trendsetters.” Other music directorships have included the 20th Century Unlimited concert series (Santa Fe, New Mexico), the Thornton Chamber Orchestra, and the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra. His appearances as a guest conductor have garnered critical acclaim in the United States, Asia, and Europe, where he has conducted throughout Spain, Sweden, Germany, and France. In 1987, he became the first Israeli-born conductor to perform in China and has since conducted numerous engagements in Beijing and Shanghai. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with nearly every leading artist, including Gil Shaham, Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang, Pepe Romero, Joseph Kalichstein, Vladimir Feltsman, and Anne-Marie McDermott.Additionally, Gilad has had an instrumental role in the founding and forming of several notable festivals. From 1982-1993, he directed the Malibu Strawberry Creek Music Festival, hailed by the Los Angles Times as “a summer festival in which inspired, enthusiastic performance and intelligent, varied programming are the norm.” An accomplished clarinetist, Gilad has performed at top music festivals across the country, including the Marlboro Music Festival and Santa Barbara’s Music Academy of the West. He also founded the Yoav Chamber Ensemble, which performed at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Hall in New York, and the Colburn Woodwind Chamber Players, which toured Germany, China, and the United States. Gilad is also a renowned teacher, having developed one of the most prestigious clarinet studios in the country. His students can be heard throughout the world, and many are members of major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Stockholm, Hong Kong, and Seoul philharmonics. His students have won prizes at most of the top competitions, such as the New York Philharmonic Young Artists Competition, the International Clarinet Association Competition, the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition, Munich’s ARD International Music Competition, and the Prague Spring International Music Competition. In addition to his professorship at the University of Southern California and position as master teacher at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music and School for the Performing Arts, Gilad is regularly invited to present masterclasses and performances at music conservatories and festivals worldwide. He has been invited to such institutions as Kings College (Sweden), the Winter Festival in Spain, the Curtis Institute, the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, the Curtis Institute, the Juilliard School, Mannes College, and the Manhattan School of Music. Whether at home or abroad, Gilad is passionate about arts education and expanding the role that orchestras play within the community. This passion has led him to champion American and contemporary music, as well as educational programs that bring professional level orchestras into public schools. As the music director of the Colonial Symphony, Gilad established the orchestra not only as a premier regional orchestra but also as an active teaching orchestra, integrating their performances into urban and suburban schools’ curricula. His dedication to fostering increased public appreciation and support of classical music has led to frequent appearances on international television and radio. This fall, Gilad fulfilled a child’s wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation by spending a day meeting and teaching a clarinet student with cancer. Among the many honors and awards Gilad has received are the Distinguished Teacher Award from the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the Israel-America Cultural Foundation Scholarship. Furthermore, under his leadership as Music Director, the Colonial Symphony received NEA grants for seven consecutive years as well as two Distinguished Arts Organization Awards from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for its artistry and program merits. Born and raised on a kibbutz in Israel, Gilad began his musical education at the age of 16. Following his conservatory studies, he immigrated to the United States in 1975 to further his education. His former teachers were Giora Feidman, Mitchell Lurie, William Schaefer, Daniel Lewis, and Herbert Zipper. Gilad was also an active participant in numerous intensive masterclasses with the late Sergiu Celibidache and Leonard Bernstein.</image:caption>

The prestigious list of previous recipients includes Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky, Birgit Nilson and Daniel Barenboim. His repertoire encompasses mainstream clarinet works, as well as a number of contemporary pieces that he has personally championed, with notable commissions including Anders Hillborg’s Peacock Tales and Jesper Nordin’s Emerge. As a soloist, Fröst has performed with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. He regularly collaborates with prominent international artists, including Yuja Wang, Janine Jansen, Leif Ove Andsnes, Roland Pöntinen and Antoine Tamestit, as well as performs in international events such as Verbier Festival in Switzerland and Mostly Mozart in New York. Fröst has appeared in some of the world’s most important concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Konzerthaus Berlin and he has toured in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. Renowned for his multimedia performing projects in collaboration with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, in recent years Fröst has presented Dollhouse, Genesis and most recently Retrotopia – his latest project to perform both as soloist and conductor in a musical journey that explores new repertoire and challenges the traditional conventions of classical concerts. In recent years he has made successful conducting steps with the most important being his appointment as Chief Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra from the 2019/20 season. Together they will focus on a music journey that explores Mozart’s historic footprint in Europe through his travels. The project, set to be recorded by Sony Classical over a period of four years, will be the orchestra’s first comprehensive green tour initiative, making extensive use of rail travel across Europe. Following successful residencies in the 2018/19 season in Bamberg with the Bamberger Symphoniker and Frankfurt with the hr-Sinfonieorchester, in 2019/20 Fröst features as Artist-in-Focus with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under the baton of Paavo Järvi. Concerts will be given in cities across central Europe, with Fröst performing one of the mainstays of his repertoire — Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. Other notable collaborations this season include his return to the Barbican Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, a recital tour in Italy with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, as well as orchestral tours China with the NDR Radiophilharmonie and in Spain with Orquestra de Cadaqués.
