Our 2021 Summer Faculty

What We Offer

Lessons

Maestro Plan participants will receive three lessons from three different members of our core faculty. Our faculty work as a team to ensure a seamless transition between lessons, so you leave the week with a clear understanding of our concepts. In addition, Yehuda Gilad will be offering more lessons this summer!

New!! With the All-Access Pass, Maestro Plan participants and upgraded Subscribers will gain access to audit 25 lessons from our faculty.

Master Class & Technique Classes

Martin Fröst will be headlining our festival with a master class on June 30th. Yehuda Gilad, Afendi Yusuf, Sonia Sielaff, Venancio Rius, Eric Abramovitz and Edgar Lopez will each be giving a master class, with a Q+A to follow. There are a limited number of master class spots available and priority will be given on a first come, first served basis.

Also new this year, we will be presenting three Technique Classes: Air, Articulation, and Intonation. Our faculty will be demonstrating techniques and exercises to improve these three fundamental aspects of your playing.

Workshops

We will have three workshops this summer. Anyone who signs up for Excerpt Class for All will have the opportunity to play excerpts during the class. Warm Up with CMF is a warm up curated by the CMF faculty. This warm up is based on Yehuda Gilad’s note=note concept. This concept states that no matter if you are playing a long tone, concerto or orchestral excerpt, every note is related. In Score Analysis with Andrew Sandwick, Andrew will be taking you through the score of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Clarinet Quintet, and demonstrating how he translates this score into his performance.

Open Forums

Open forums are conversations led by CMF faculty, intended to engage with our community.

Our four forums include: Martin Fröst Discussion and Q+A, Yehudaisms, Yehuda Gilad and Faculty Q+A, and Limitless with Kristina Teuschler. We’ll be outlining and detailing the terminology we like to call “Yehudaisms.” These are terms and phrases such as, “life is not a bagel,” “the three pillars,” and “+5, +10, +15” that will be mentioned throughout the festival. Clarinetist and cultural worker, Kristina Teuschler will be our guest speaker. She’ll be discussing the cultural significance of classical music and what we can do to make classical music more diverse and inclusive.

Our guest Martin Fröst will be answering your questions and discussing his Martin Fröst Foundation.

Recitals

Along with several performance opportunities, Maestro Plan participants will be able to perform in the CMF Recital at the end of the festival.

The CMF Faculty Recital is a free, benefit concert that will feature most of our core faculty. All donations will go directly to the Martin Fröst Foundation; a foundation whose mission is access to music education for all.

Nighttime Sessions

New!! After classes and lessons end on June 28th and 30th, we’ll be presenting Nighttime Sessions. Anyone who signs up for Open Mic Night will have a chance to perform or share a hidden talent for 5 minutes. You can add your favorite songs to our Listening Party playlist. It’s a great opportunity for us to learn new music from each other and share any favorites.

Who can enroll?

If you love the clarinet, this festival is made for you! Maybe you want to get out of a Zoom teaching rut. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Maybe you have competition or audition repertoire you want to run-through. Whoever you are and whatever it is, we can help. Need some reassurance?
