Nathan Nguyen

Hailing from Southern California, Nathan Nguyen is a clarinetist and improvisatory pianist that brings innovative, electrifying music to the stage. Nathan has worked with many renowned clarinet instructors such as Yehuda Gilad, Michael Yoshimi, and Mathieu Girardet. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory, where he studies with Richard Hawkins.

Nathan has placed numerous principal positions at honor festivals and youth groups, including the Orange County School of the Arts Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. In addition to clarinet, he frequently performs with many Vietnamese choirs as a pianist.

A son to Vietnamese immigrants, Nathan dealt with many obstacles in his musical upbringing. Knowing that wealth and race are often key determining factors to success in the music industry, his goal is to break down these superficial barriers, creating a more equitable and accessible landscape for all. He believes in the tenacity of the individual, and he looks forward to reshaping the industry one step at a time.
